Struggle to stop regressive labor reform bills
FKTU’s position on KCTU President Han Sang-gyun’s voluntary appearance…President Kim Dong-man’s one-person protest will continue
Today (December 10, 2015), KCTU President Han Sang-gyun stepped outside the Jogye Temple and turned himself to the police station.
President Han Sang-gyun held a press conference before the voluntary appearance and said that he would leave the field for a short time but be with the struggle including a general strike to stop regressive labor reforms.
Total responsibility for the current difficult situation including the Peoples’ General Rally goes to the government and the ruling party. The reason for this is that they forcefully proceed with regressive labor reforms which produce lifelong non-regular workers violating the tripartite agreement to which FKTU agreed with difficulty. Even MP Kwon Seong-dong of the Saenuri Party acknowledged, while rebuking the proposal that the bill for non-regular workers shall be handled separately from the bills for industrial accident and employment insurance, that the bills for expansion of fixed-term and dispatch work the government and the ruling party are pursuing are disadvantageous for workers, arguing that “the bills benefiting only workers cannot be passed separately from other bills at the National Assembly.”
In the meantime, the Ministry of Employment and Labor does not hide its intention to enforce the guidelines on general layoff and disadvantageous change in employment regulations, proposing to discuss directives on change in employment regulations and cancelation of a labor contract which are slated to be handled next year.
Anger from the field workers for the behaviors of the government and the ruling party is translated into an urge for President Kim Dong-man to declare the ‘immediate rupture’ of the tripartite agreement and withdrawal from the ESDC. FKTU cannot find a reason or cause to keep the tripartite agreement if the government and the ruling party stick to their regressive labor reform bills.
The government and the ruling party must repeal the bills for lifelong non-regular work which distorts the tripartite agreement. FKTU President Kim Dong-man’s one-person protest will continue until the regressive labor reform bills by the government and the ruling party are repealed and FKTU will wage an all-out struggle amassing every organizational potential.
