FKTU Organizes National Workers' Rally
The Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) organized a National Workers' Rally in front of the City Hall, downtown Seoul on 19 November 2016 with 50,000 union members participating.
The FKTU denounced the government for providing preferential treatments to the cheabol in return for regressive labor reform. The FKTU demanded President Park Geun-hye resign and the anti-labor policies be withdrawn.
KIM Dongman, President of the FKTU, denounced the Park adminstration in his opening speech by saying that it aggressively pushed ahead with the regressive reform bills, anti-labor guidelines and the performance-based wage system.
This rally was also attended by prominent leaders from opposition parties and the Seoul Mayor.
Noriyuki Suzuki, The General Secretary of ITUC-Asia Pacific, addressed, "The ITUC-AP strongly denounces any one of these retrogressive labor policies. They clearly violate international core labor standards and moreover, only aggravate the prolonged socioeconomic hardship in Korea. The ITUC-AP will be in unity together with FKTU"
