“Gender awareness raising with men is essential for gender equality"
FKTU President stresses on the occasion of 109th International Women's Day
FKTU held Women Workers' Convention in celebration of the 109th International Women's Day at its headquarters in Seoul on 8 March 2017.
President Juyoung KIM stressed in his keynote speech, "It is impossible to increase women's participation in economic activities and achieve equal or sustainable society if we do not have a full review of Korea's policies on women, labour and child-care. Policies only targetting women can never be successful in alleviating discrimination against women and gender disparity."
He went on to say, "As a new president of the FKTU, I will take the lead in addressing discrimination against women, the elderly, youths and precarious workers and creating working environment in which work- family balance is fully achieved.
The participants adopted a resolution on institutional reforms for the use of child-care leave and shortened working hours for men, They also urged the government to take measures for quality public social services and stronger social safety nets.
