"Restoration and Reinforcement of Trade Union Activities through Struggles and Dialogue"
FKTU Reveals Action Plans for 2014 at Annual National Congress The FKTU finalized its action plans and budgets for the year 2014 at the Annual National Congress on 26 Feb 2014.
The Congress adopted its core strategy of "Restoration and reinforcement of trade union activities through the combination of struggles and dialogue" and decided its key areas of activities including the protection of fundamental workers' rights, wage system reforms, protest against unilateral restructuring, reduction of working hours and active response to labor market flexibility, broad implementation of the FKTU Future Strategies, etc.
Especially, the Congress decided to stage constant and strong struggles with short and long-term plans in order to resolve current labor issues.
Accordingly, the FKTU will establish a systematic and comprehensive system through setting up an All-out Struggle Task Force, It will also organize nation-wide education tour of the leadership and a massive rally in celebration of May Day in order to mobilize power from grassroots trade unions in the first half of the year.
For the second half of the year, it will be committed to labor law reforms by organizing a National Convention of Trade Union Representatives and a National Rally as well as lobbing the National Assembly.
Dong-man KIM, President of the FKTU, stressed that the government's forcible and unilateral labor policy must be immediately halted, however, we are willing to participate in dialogue if the government shows forward-looking attitudes and trust.
He pointed out, "The government keeps trying to pass on a burden of public corporations' debts to workers by forcing unilateral change in collective agreements, deterioration of working conditions and illegitimate interference in industrial relations", demanding the government to instantly stop fraudulent normalization plan and start sincere dialogue with labour circle.
He went on to say, "The FKTU would set up a Special Committee for Organizational Development with an aim to assist vulnerable workers including precarious workers, youths and migrant workers in March.
The Congress also adopted a resolution on firm commitment to promoting workers' rights and people's livelihood.
- To protect people's and workers' livelihood including expansion of the scope of ordinary wages, reduction of working hours, extension of retirement age and improvement of unfair subcontracting system;
- To defend workers' job security in protest against restructuring and privatization; - To block the government's unilateral plan on the normalization of the public sector
