"Stop low quality part-time jobs! Guarantee decent work for women!"
The FKTU held a National Women Workers' Convention under the slogan of "Equal World We Build Together" in celebration of the 106th International Women's Day (IWD) at Guro Citizen's Center on 7 March.
KIM Dong-man, President of the FKTU, stressed, "The current government's policy on the expansion of part-time work with an aim of achieving seventy percent of employment rate has resulted in worsening job quality. This policy could deepen social polarization and gender division of labor and, thus, should be stopped without fail."
He went on to say, "We will do our best to create a culture of gender equality so that women workers can work without worrying about their children. We will also step up lobbying efforts for legislation and policy reforms in order for women not to give up their career due to pregnancy, childbirths, childcare and family care."
The Convention adopted a resolution on the promotion of gender equality and women representation in trade unions; the protection of fundamental workers' rights through labor law reforms; the promotion of job security and decent work for women; the reinforcement of state's responsibility on pregnancy, childbirths, child-care and education; and the reduction of actual working hours for work/life balance.
