Revision of Trade Unions Law! Elimination of Discrimination against Precarious Workers! Victory of Presidential Election!
- FKTU Organizes National Workers Rally, 17 Nov 2012
The Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) held '2012 National Workers' Rally' in Yoido, Seoul on 17 Nov in demand of the complete revision of the Trade Unions and Labour Relations Adjustment Act (TULRAA) and the elimination of discrimination against precarious workers. The Rally which was participated by 40,000 union members also made a firm commitment to the victory of the presidential election slated for 19 Dec 2012.
MOON Jin-kook, President of the FKTU, pointed out in his keynote speech, "Trade union activities have been shrinking and the very basis of trade union movement has been shaking due to the retrogressive TULRAA. The distorted time-off system has eliminated full-time union officials and the coercive single bargaining channel has made trade unions powerless."
He went on to say, "The FKTU has delivered our main demands including the revision of the TULRAA to the 3 most influential presidential candidates. We will make every effort to have our demands implemented. We have to elect a pro-worker president who will bring about economic democracy, job security and welfare.
The rally was also attended by the three major presidential candidates including Ms. PARK Keun-hye (ruling Saenuri Party), Mr. MOON Jae-in (opposition Democratic United Party) and Mr. AHN Chul-soo (independent).
The participants of the rally adopted a resolution demanding the immediate stop of government's oppression of trade union movement and the revision of the TULRAA ; the reduction of working hours and the raise of minimum wage; the immediate revision of election-related laws for full protection of the right to political participation for all workers and people.
